“I’m on a diet.”

Can we just talk about the responses that that sentence gets?

  • “You aren’t even fat!”
I know. Being on a diet doesn’t mean I that I have a poor self image or think I’m fat- I simply just want to feel and look better in my own eyes.
  • “Really? But I saw you eat that piece of pizza on Saturday.”
I hate this comment!!!!!!!!!!!!! Being on a diet doesn’t mean you have to completely stop living your life or quit eating delicious foods. Everything in moderation. For me, I stick to a pretty strict diet during the week and have one cheat meal on Saturday or Sunday. Sometimes I have one cheat meal on both depending on what’s going on- and it doesn’t mean I’m cheating on my diet. You cannot deprive yourself forever or you WILL get tired of eating better and you WILL binge and that is when you’ll start to stall progress.
  • “You don’t need to be.”
I appreciate what you’re trying to say, but I do need to be because I want to be. I will what I want. (Sponsor me, Under Armour!)

I hate even saying that I’m on a diet because I hate the misconceptions. It seems that every alternative has negative comments as well, though. If I say I’m eating healthy, and somebody sees me eating beef or chicken- they’ll tell me it isn’t healthy to eat a lot of animal meat and lalala. There really isn’t a way around it. You have to learn to take everything with a grain of salt.

Remember, you go to sleep with YOU every night. Do your own research. Find something that’s right for YOUR body, whether that be a certain training program or nutrition guide or both, and stick to it for at least two months. If you don’t see any progress, try something else! Just don’t rely on the word of what others think is “best” for you… it seems everyone wants to give their two cents when you talk about dieting or working out. Listen to advice, but DO. YOUR. OWN. RESEARCH.

Just some late night thoughts… 🙂

I am down to 154 from 168 today so I’ve got fitness and nutrition on the brain. Please leave comments! Goodnight ❤ xo

  1. I’ve heard all of those responses before and I’m groaning just thinking about them. People mean well but it is definitely frustrating hearing that you don’t need to or whatever else. Love your message here about doing it for yourself and not for others, it’s really the best way to start on the change that’s right for you. All the best with your diet, don’t let anyone discourage you with what they say, well meant or not! x
